Bilston Manufacturer Secures £50k Grant with Support from Business Growth West Midlands
Published: 19 June 2024
Bowers and Jones Ltd, based in the Bilston area of Wolverhampton, have been making equipment for the metal rolling industry in the Black Country for almost 70 years. They currently employ 16 staff and offer a complete in-house service provided by their experienced engineers. The company has been on a growth trajectory and has a turnover of over £4M.
Business Advisers have been working with the company for a number of years, supporting them in their growth. The most recent outcome of this support is a UK Shared Prosperity Fund grant of £50,000 toward a £400,000 investment in a new Doosan Vertical Lathe. The company again worked with adviser support from Wolverhampton Council's business growth team and Business Growth West Midlands to develop a robust business case to secure the grant. Managing Director Jane Sommerville said, “We want to expand further, and the new machine will provide capacity for bidding for high value, high quality products for very special applications in the metal forming and rolling contracts in the UK and overseas. It will reduce business lead times by alleviating a bottleneck the company currently has in this product range."
As the needs and goals of a business evolve, and new opportunities become available in the business support landscape, the role of a business adviser evolves also. So whether it’s grant funding you need, introductions, doors opened into new supply chains, or help with developing and diversifying your business, Business Growth West Midlands is here to help at every stage. And always completely free of charge.
