BEAS – Driving energy savings and sustainable business growth
Reflecting on our achievements and looking forward to 2025

2024: A year of impact
As we step into 2025, the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) celebrates a successful and monumental year supporting businesses in the West Midlands. A pilot programme of Business Growth West Midlands (BGWM), BEAS was launched in 2024 to empower small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) with the tools, insights, and funding they need to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
The BEAS programme was created to address the dual challenges SMEs face in managing rising energy costs and meeting environmental targets. Through free energy assessments and funding for energy-saving measures like improved insulation and heating systems, BEAS has enabled businesses to cut costs while contributing to the fight against climate change.
Some of our key achievements in 2024 include:
- 1763 businesses enrolled in the programme.
- 922 detailed energy assessments conducted.
- Active delivery by 6 primary delivery partners covering West Midlands and following regions: Telford & Wrekin, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire.
By implementing BEAS recommendations, businesses have the potential to achieve significant savings:
87,870,729.84 kilowatts of energy savings – equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 8,000 UK households.
32,990.18 tonnes of carbon emissions avoided – comparable to driving 82 million miles in an average petrol car.
Partnering for progress
BEAS owes much of its success to its collaboration with regional delivery partners, who have provided hands-on support to local businesses. These partnerships have been essential to expanding the programme’s reach and ensuring a lasting impact across the West Midlands.
Looking ahead to 2025
Building on our 2024 achievements, BEAS is setting ambitious goals for the coming year. We aim to:
- Reach more businesses across the region, especially those yet to explore energy efficiency opportunities.
- Strengthen support for SMEs by expanding our network and resources.
- Continue contributing to the nationwide push for net zero, aligning with the UK’s 2050 targets.
As we enter this new chapter, BEAS invites SMEs to join the movement for sustainability and cost-efficiency. Whether you’re looking to reduce your energy bills or adopt greener practices, BEAS is here to help.
